NuEnergen executives Kevin Hamilton and Sandy Hamilton recently met with Colorado Governor Bill Ritter to discuss the energy issues facing Colorado and the rest of the United States. Governor Ritter is helping the State of Colorado in charting a course for what he calls our "New Energy Economy" with his recent Colorado Climate Action Plan that addresses reducing Colorado's Carbon Footprint 20% by the year 2020 over 2005 levels, and an ambitious 80%
by the year 2050. Leading the charge is the Governor's Sr. Advisor on Energy and Climate Heidi VanGenderen who was instrumental in the development of the plan.
As a company, NuEnergen is working with businesses not only to develop their existing carbon footprint, but also identifying key areas that will impact reduction, such as; implementing Energy Efficiency projects, buying Carbon Offsets, buying Renewable Energy Certificates and installing Solar or Wind Power generation.
We also spent quite a bit of time talking about the upcoming Democratic National Convention. The DNCC (Democratic National Convention Committee) is committed to becoming the "greenest" convention ever by offsetting 100% of the additional carbon emissions generated by having the convention in Denver, Colorado this summer. They've brought on a Director of Sustainability to address all of the added waste, emissions from travel, increases in energy consumption as well as developing an education awareness campaign for this years convention. They've coined the initiative "Green DNC 2008" and you can read more about it here. The DNCC, Governor Ritter and the State of Colorado, the City of Denver, and the Pepsi Center will all be working toward a common goal of Environmental Sustainability and GHG emission reduction.
